Book Report: Blood Moon

By: Cassie Birk

Welcome to the Book Report. This is the nitty gritty, spoiler-free view on one of my latest reads to see if Blood Moon by Britney S. Lewis would be a good fit for your TBR!

BEFORE WE DIVE IN…

Everything that the reader should know about the book before diving into the details.

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Age Group: Young Adult/New Adult

The following content warnings are described on page: Violence, Blood, Car Crash, Kidnapping

Spice Level: Medium. We get some steamy makeout sessions and classic tropes like “only one bed” and “nursing back to health,” but nothing incredibly explicit beyond kissing and partial nudity.

Page Count: 420 pages.

Series?: Yes. This is the first book in a series, and the ending leaves enough hanging that readers will likely want to pick up the rest of the series for a satisfying conclusion.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Mirabella grew up in the small town of Timber Plains, Kansas, where residents tell tales of unique folklore surrounding werewolves that traveled to her corner of the midwest many moons ago to protect humans from vampires. While Mira stopped believing in those stories when her life changed for the worse at thirteen due to her mom disappearing from her life, her curiosity in the town’s history is sparked again when she begins school at local college, Lakeland University. Her freshman year is plagued by strange animal attacks occurring around campus that her father seems to believe are connected to her mother’s disappearance.

The only person who seems to know anything is Julian Santos, the sullen bad boy who is hell-bent on getting Mira to leave campus for reasons she doesn’t understand. Mira will have to accept that there is much more to the old town myths, and her growing feelings for Julian, than she ever could have anticipated. Will she fall for Julian, who seems to want to be her enemy before anything else, or accept the glowing affection from quarterback and childhood friend, Seven? Or will her blood decide for her?

Blood Moon comes out on September 9th, 2025 in the US and about 6–8 weeks later worldwide. And if you were curious, yes! The book does have sprayed edges.

READER PROFILE

You might find this book a great fit for your TBR if:

  • You are still angry about the end pairing of True Blood (justice will be served).

  • One of the things you really appreciated about Bride and Mate by Ali Hazelwood was the politics between vampire, werewolf, and human relationships, not just the romance!

  • Twilight is still a core part of your identity today, but you were absolutely Team Jacob.

  • You would have KILLED for some more melanin in The Vampire Diaries cast.

  • A Werewolf's Guide to Seducing a Vampire is your favorite installment in the Glimmer Falls series, but you are looking for something a bit less cozy and more action-packed with higher stakes for your next read.

WHAT READERS THINK

“Deliciously, vampiric, lycan-ish and YA. I never knew who to trust and still don't. On the surface, it may seem the author is simply replicating the vibes and familiar storyline of Twilight, the Vampire Diaries, and more. Under the surface, she delivers the promised vibe and revenge of #teamjacob & #damnonandbonnie shippers. While subverting your expectations, and the conventions of the genre. Well done.”—naz;༘⋆ on Goodreads

“This book delivered on so many levels! I loved the werewolf lore, I loved the twilight and CW feels while reading, I loved the twist and turns, I loved the fmc Mira and how she stands up for herself, and I loved the twists and turns in this book! The ending had me almost throwing my kindle because I NEEDED more and will be impatiently waiting until the next instalment! The romance was also well written and I was hooked! A fantastic read that I know I will be rereading in the future too!”—jennyykelly on StoryGraph

“As a big twilight fan and vampire diaries fan…really just lover of vampires…I was so excited for this book. At first I was impressed. I realized there was similarities to twilight but it’s been years since I even read those books so it took me a moment to realize how much similarity there was. Too much. I agree with others that the last 20% offered some originality but not enough to overshadow the rest of the book.”—Byrdandbooks on Fable
