I explore why more adults should read the YA genre. I discuss, through my experiences reading books like Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds and The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, how YA encourages empathy for others, validates our experiences and can even challenge beliefs about ourselves and others. I also give reminders for how adults can be respectful as guests in the genre!
